Being an Enabler and
not labeler

Giving honest feedback is integral to your role; however, being judgmental is optional ❌. If you are a parent or/and a leader, reading this post might help you become better at both!

A study found that employees reacted negatively to criticism more than half the time and reacted positively to criticism just once out of thirteen times.

In other words, the most likely response to criticism will be a negative one.👎

It is natural to think, isn’t judging integral to the process of being able to provide honest feedback?

Infact a participant asked me this as a part of my mental fitness program.

I curate such questions🙋‍♂️ as these expand the scope of our learning and create a deeper understanding of the issue, not just for the participant but for the entire cohort and the ones to come!

Coming back to the question at hand! ⁉️

Most importantly, judgment is not always expressed in what we say. What we leave unsaid can often speak volumes and make the team feel disengaged!

A pattern of behavior that you slot a person in!

When someone is a victim of our judgment, they turn defensive, and in turn, they start prosecuting others and the organization… resulting in an endless downward spiral⏬

Take a moment to reflect on your approach to making your child learn something. It may be walking🚶or swimming 🏊‍♀️or just teaching him something.

How did you approach the failure (or) lack of skills?
Did you judge him on his success/failure to succeed (or) become his partner in success?

The moment we disengage the person from the task and become aware of the factors that contribute to a task’s performance – be it his skill sets /his environment/ his transitory constraints, we can positively steer the trajectory of the person in the right direction🛣️

In other words, you keep him at the center of success🌟

When we do this, we become enablers instead of the labelers, transforming the trajectory in a positive direction of growth!

Every associate feels this in their heart when you do this because you are coming from “Acceptance” as a platform.

Being Non-Judgemental is a crucial skill for leadership.
Your first job as a leader is NOT to judge. The  moment you start judging people as a leader, you will lose them

Add this to your leadership tool repertoire ⚒️to become an Effective Leader!
